"In 1972 I left art school and took a job with a graphics company in Boston. After two months of financial struggle, I shifted gears and headed to Wall Street in hopes of a more lucrative career. That journey took me into the trading rooms of the world and lasted thirty years. During that time I was fortunate enough to live in Europe, Asia and on both American coasts. From an artistic perspective, this was a great learning experience for me. Throughout the years I never stopped sculpting or thinking of what might have been had I remained on my original path.
Since retiring to New Orleans in 2003, I've been sculpting in an attempt to hone my skills. My work goes to the great modern sculptors and specifically the Japanese school. The Japanese use of simple natural materials and shapes has always held a special interest for me. Now, 38 years after leaving art school, I am at last ready to present my work to the public." ---Lapin, 2010 |
