About the Artist

A native of Louisiana, Hutchinson has lived and worked in New Orleans since 1960. He is a retired lawyer pursuing his passion—painting---full-time.

A contemporary expressionist painter, his work is primarily figurative, ranging from the human character to the animal world. In recent years he has concentrated on animal portraits—trying to capture the mood, spirit and emotions of his subjects, whether they be of the barnyard, domesticated or wild persuasion.  His medium is oil on board, canvas and paper.

Hutchinson and his wife Allison Stewart split their time between New Orleans and the mountains of Colorado. In 1999 they founded KID smART, a non-profit organization that provides artists in the classroom and after-school and community based programs in a variety of art forms to public school children in New Orleans.  KID smART’s focus is arts integration—linking the arts with the existing academic curriculum.

He has also self-published five books of his paintings and limericks.
